People get on and off.
We pass the Rocks of the Lorelei, where so many sailors met their doom.
(It is a sharp curve, whether or not one is distracted by seductive sirens.)
Little by little, the once-crowded decks lose their occupants ...
... as we pass the last castles.
And we arrive at Koln (Cologne)! The famous
cathedral is just across from the train station.
K&M go up into the bell tower. The "Peter der Grosse" (Peter the Great)
bell in the Koln dome is the world's heaviest swinging bell.
Definitely a heckuva cathedral!
A sidewalk artist on the square just outside.
July 12. Time to head back to Copenhagen. The train
station is right across from the cathedral.
Seasoned travelers by now.
Arriving in Copenhagen.
Kenny never complained about that gigantic load.
... but then, he tends to defy gravity.
Settling in for the night at Hotel 9 sma hjem ("Nine small homes").
Our sedate neighborhood.
July 13. We had fetched stored luggage from
Nordita -- a lot of stuff to take to the airport.
... and still more!
We all get carts.
... and head in.
The boys' plane leaves first.
The line is long and slow.
Nana, who has tried hard to stay on her good behavior,
finally cracks. For no reason at all, she lashes out at Ken ...
... who defends himself.
Matt gallantly comes to Nana's defense.
"Stop picking on people smaller than you!", shrieks Nana.
"Hah! There's no other kind!"
"Hands off Nana!"
... we've all completely lost it.
"Enough!"
Time for goodbyes.
Lots of happy memories.
"But next time I get the real stuff, right?"
It wasn't long enough ...
... but it was wonderful.
