Matt & Ken in Europe, Jun/ Jul 1997 [part 2]

June 28. Omnimax Theatre, and a walk along the harbor ... where
Nana's camera bites the dust after one shot. Bummer.

... but that night we leave for Paris!

June 29. The camera behaves oddly on this roll. Thumbs?
Light leaks? Still, the shots remind us of that first day ...

Notre Dame.

M&K visit the treasures of Notre Dame.

Some shots from an earlier visit, to supplement those we got
this time. Some day we'll all climb up to see those gargoyles.

This virgin is a favorite -- Nana lit a candle to her
Aunt Tahe here, on the day of her death.

We looked at where Sainte-Chapelle stood near
-- hidden within what is now the Palace of Justice
-- but saved visiting it for another day.

This was the day M&K discovered crepe stands ...

June 30. On a gray day, we visit the Arc de Triomphe.

The Eternal Flame.

Ken got some good shots of the arch.

Climbing up ...

View from the top.

It's a long climb to the top, on either camera.

The Champs-Élysées.

A good view of you-know-what in the mist.

The avenues radiate from this landmark.

Last glimpse.

The tower is counting the days until year 2000.

Everybody was eager to go up, but the top was lost in clouds ...

... so it seems a good day to visit Napoleon's tomb instead.

The ceiling of the dome.

Ken's camera offers additional views.

July 01. Finally, up the Eiffel Tower! Views from Ken's camera.

Looking off toward the École militaire.

After some fooling around with his hair on the part of Nana, Matt decided it was time for a new look. A barber with a shop just off Rue Monge transformed his bowl cut into a more mature style -- très sportif! This was another big event of July 1. He looked great at a gala dinner that night at a restaurant on the Rue Mouffetard, where he & Ken ate their first snails.

Hotel des Invalides, where Napoleon lies.

Our plan to visit the Louvre that day didn't work -- it was closed that afternoon.
But in the nearby Tuileries Garden, a festival was in progress!
